Top 10 Cryptocurrencies and Five New Entrants in 2026

Never invest more than you can afford to lose. Crypto is high risk, and this guide is general information, not professional advice.

CoinGecko tracked 22,839 active cryptocurrencies on 6 November 2026, worth about $2.57 trillion in total. Bitcoin alone made up 59% of that. Here are the ten largest by market cap, five newer names, and what changed since our last list.

This is a snapshot from one day, not a list of what to buy. Market cap is the price multiplied by the number of coins in circulation. It shows size, not quality or safety, and it isn't money anyone could cash out at that price.

What each one is

1. Bitcoin (BTC)

The first cryptocurrency, launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. It runs without a central authority and its supply is capped at 21 million coins. Its record high was $126,080 in October 2025, so even the largest coin can lose 40% in about a year. How Bitcoin works.

2. Ethereum (ETH)

Launched in 2015, Ethereum is a platform as well as a currency. Developers use it to run smart contracts, which are programs that carry out transactions automatically. More on Ethereum.

3. Tether (USDT)

The largest stablecoin, a token designed to stay worth one US dollar. It had the highest trading volume of any coin on this list, about $50.6 billion in 24 hours. A stablecoin isn't risk free: it depends on its issuer holding enough reserves. More on Tether.

4. BNB (BNB)

Formerly Binance Coin, BNB is tied to the Binance exchange and the BNB Chain network. It pays for transactions on that network, so its fortunes are closely linked to Binance. SimpleCrypto has a partner link with Binance elsewhere on this site.

5. XRP (XRP)

A digital asset built for fast, low-cost payments and closely associated with the company Ripple. Its long US court case ended in August 2025 when Ripple and the SEC dropped their appeals. The earlier ruling stands: some of Ripple's direct sales to institutions broke securities rules, while its sales on public exchanges didn't. More on XRP.

6. USD Coin (USDC)

A second dollar stablecoin, issued by Circle. The US passed its first federal stablecoin law, the GENIUS Act, in July 2025. It requires permitted issuers to back their coins one-for-one with dollars or similar safe assets.

7. Solana (SOL)

A network designed for high speed and low fees, used to run applications much as Ethereum is. SOL is down 69% from its record of $293 in January 2025. More on Solana.

8. TRON (TRX)

A smart contract network that CoinGecko describes as a settlement layer for stablecoins and everyday digital purchases. It wasn't in our last top 10.

9. Figure Heloc (FIGR_HELOC)

This is a token representing home equity loans made by the lender Figure, so it isn't a currency in the usual sense. Its place here is disputed. Critics say it has little use on the blockchain and shouldn't be compared with coins like these, while Figure's CEO says the loans are real assets traded on a public chain. Data providers also disagree: in September 2026 CoinGecko ranked it tenth at $24.61 billion, while CoinMarketCap showed $15.4 billion and rank 4020.

10. Zcash (ZEC)

Launched in 2016, Zcash lets users make shielded payments that hide the sender, receiver and amount, using a method called zero-knowledge proofs. Like Bitcoin, it's limited to 21 million coins. Its record of about $3,192 dates from its first days of trading in 2016, when very few coins existed. Why Bitcoin itself isn't anonymous.

Five new entrants

These are the five largest tokens outside the top 10, within CoinGecko's top 120, that reached major exchanges in the past two years. We left out stablecoins, tokenized funds, and tokens with under $25 million traded in 24 hours, because a market cap means little when so few coins change hands. Rain, for example, ranked 24th with only about $12 million traded. Being new and large doesn't make any of these a good investment.

Hyperliquid (HYPE): rank 11, $18.8 billion

A decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, running on its own blockchain. The token launched on 29 November 2024, with 31% of the supply given to early users. It's close to the top 10 and 20% below the record it set in September 2026.

Canton (CC): rank 27, $3.8 billion

A smart contract network with privacy features. Its token, Canton Coin, is designed to reward people for using and running the network. The token dates from mid-2024 but reached major exchanges in November 2025.

Pump.fun (PUMP): rank 52, $1.8 billion

A Solana-based service that lets anyone create a memecoin without technical skills. Its token sale on 12 July 2025 raised a reported $600 million in about 12 minutes, at $0.004 per token. At $0.00396, it was trading slightly below that sale price.

Aster (ASTER): rank 55, $1.8 billion

Another decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, and a rival to Hyperliquid, built around BNB Chain. The token launched on 17 September 2025 and is 72% below the record it set a week later.

World Liberty Financial (WLFI): rank 62, $1.5 billion

A decentralized finance platform that CoinGecko describes as associated with the Trump family. WLFI is a governance token, which lets holders vote on the project. It began trading on 1 September 2025 and is 86% below the high it set that day.

What changed since our last list

Our previous version described the market in 2024. Three of its top 10 have since dropped out: Dogecoin is now 13th, Cardano 18th and Avalanche 28th. TRON, Figure Heloc and Zcash took their places.

The five newcomers from that version show how quickly attention moves on. Kaspa is now 80th, Celestia 112th, Sei 128th, Optimism 147th and THORChain 170th. All five are at least 85% below their record highs.

That's the main lesson of a list like this. Rankings change, and last year's exciting newcomer can lose most of its value. Do your own research, expect big swings, and never invest more than you can afford to lose.
